Ashley Ashley, a senior editor at The American Conservatives, wrote in an article titled Why Is the Big House so Expensive?: What you need for your budgeting needs, as well as an explanation of how to find out more.
The article explained that the House of Representatives has an average of 1,400 people working for it, so even a modest renovation could cost upwards of $1 billion.
“The $1.1 billion is only for the House’s Capitol renovation, and only one-third of that is dedicated to the Capitol’s renovation, according to the House budget documents,” Ashley wrote.
“The other half, $1,700 million, is dedicated for maintenance of the Capitol and the Capitol Rotunda.”
